V6 Diesel for New Amarok
3.0 TDI | 220bhp | 450lbf.ft | 37 mpg | On sale late 2016
The revised Volkswagen Amarok is getting a 3.0-litre V6 turbodiesel, the first in its market sector. The big premium pick-up will have 220bhp and 405lb ft of torque.
Powering through either a manual or eight-speed auto box, the 3.0-litre TDI V6 will comply with the forthcoming Euro 6 emission standards, as well as achieving around 37mpg. Those are attractive attributes whether you’re buying it for business or pleasure - or, as happens more often now, for both.
The power will fed through to options enabling you to choose a version that is only rear-wheel drive, or with 4MOTION part-time four-wheel drive or with permanent four-wheel drive with a Torsen diff. It may be used by mums for picking up the children from private school, but this is a 4x4 pick-up with some genuine off-road ability, even when fully laden.
The restyled body now has a load bed that can take a Euro-pallet sideways with a weight load of over a tonne. Some versions of the pick-up will also be able to tow up to 3.5 tonnes. Add in a revised and more luxurious cabin, a whole raft of safety equipment as standard, including Automatic Post-Collision Braking System, and this big boy should appeal to a wide range of customers.
Prices have yet to be confirmed, but the new Amarok should be on sale in the UK before the end of the year.
